The ornamental carving at the top of the chair back, with its flowing, organic forms, influenced from the Art Nouveau movement which was popular from 1890 to 1910. This movement was characterized by its use of stylized and sinuous lines inspired by natural forms.
- Fabric and Upholstery: The chair features a padded seat and two upholstered oval back panels, which are currently covered in a faded green fabric. The upholstery is edged with a row of nail head trim, a traditional method of upholstery that also adds a decorative element.
- Wood and Construction: Created from dark hardwood, the curving lines of the chair arms and legs are graceful and dictates an elevated level of craftsmanship.
- Condition: The chair appears is well-preserved, with the wood maintaining its shape and the upholstery intact, though the fabric shows signs of fading, and the seat cushion net is damaged which is consistent with the chair's age.
